WHAT IT IS

The Bulldozer Inspection Checklist, explained.

The bulldozer inspection checklist is the daily dozer inspection built to OSHA 1926.602. It runs 4 sections and roughly 23 pass / fail / N A checkpoints — covering Undercarriage & Sprockets, Blade & Ripper, Hydraulic System, and Cab / ROPS. Download the free printable sampleto put on a clipboard today — it's a basic quick-reference. The real power is running it in the DigiDocs app, where this becomes a fully customizable, 23-point digital inspection: every failure auto-creates a deficiency routed to your mechanic, photos attach on the spot, the operator e-signs, and each completed inspection becomes a signed, timestamped audit-trail record your auditor will accept without a fight.

CREW · WHO RUNS THIS

Land-clearing contractors, road builders, mining and quarrying operators, landfill operators, pad-grading crews on industrial and commercial sites. Cat D-series, Komatsu, John Deere, Liebherr, Case crawler dozers — anywhere there's bulk material to push, the dozer daily applies before the first push of the shift.

FIELD · INTEL

What inspectors catch most.

Pulled from competent-person write-ups in the field — not from a regulation digest. These are the items that fail the daily check more than any others.

  1. 01

Undercarriage track tension out of spec — pin-and-bushing wear accelerates beyond replacement curve

  2. 02

Sprocket teeth chipped or hooked on one side, indicating track-alignment problem

  3. 03

Blade-tilt cylinder rod scored from contact with debris, hydraulic seal leakage follows

  4. 04

Ripper shank pin worn enough that the shank walks during a tear-out

  5. 05

ROPS frame bolt cracked at the cab mount — common after a heavy push into a stump

OSHA · ENFORCEMENT

What a citation costs.

OSHA Serious: up to $16,131 per violation (2026 maxima). Willful or Repeat: up to $161,323. Dozer-related fatalities most often involve rollovers when working slope; ROPS integrity is the load-bearing daily check. Citation language references both 1926.602 and 1926.1000 (ROPS requirements).

THE PAPER SAMPLE VS · THE REAL THING

The PDF is the clipboard.
DigiDocs is the system.

A printable checklist still relies on someone remembering to do it, store it, and find it when an auditor or insurer asks. The same bulldozerinspection in DigiDocs runs on the phone already in your operator's pocket — and turns a checkbox into a defensible compliance record the moment it's signed. Every field is yours to customize.

Every line item, not just sections

The full template carries all ~23 checkpoints with the OSHA / FMCSA / ASME citation on each — the sample only shows the section headers.

Photo proof on every failure

Operators attach a photo the instant something fails, so the defect is documented at the point of inspection — not reconstructed later.

Failures become mechanic work orders

Every Fail auto-creates a deficiency routed to your mechanic dashboard, with repair notes and auto-verify on the next inspection.

Red-tag / operability built in

Operator marks Operable / Non-Operable per OSHA 1926.1417; critical fails can lock the asset out of service automatically.

Signed, timestamped, permanent

Operator e-signature on submit; every completed inspection becomes an audit-trail PDF and a shareable, revocable customer link.

Make it yours

Rename fields, add sections, set conditional logic, schedule recurrences, and white-label it — no two fleets inspect exactly alike.

FREQUENTLY · ASKED

Bulldozer, in practice.

What's the worst slope a dozer can safely work?

Manufacturer-specific, but most crawler dozers are rated up to 25-30° side slope with the proper blade configuration. Beyond that, you need specialized slope-work equipment or staged earthwork to bring the slope within rating. The daily verifies the slope indicator in the cab is functional.

How often does the undercarriage need to be overhauled?

Depends on operating hours, ground conditions, and operator habits. Most dozers see 4,000-6,000-hour undercarriage life in normal conditions; abrasive ground (river rock, demolition debris) cuts that in half. The daily catches gross wear; the hour log triggers proactive component replacement.

Can the same daily template work for tracked loaders too?

Mostly — the undercarriage and engine sections transfer. The blade/ripper section doesn't apply; tracked loaders use the bucket/lift-arm section from the wheel-loader template. The skid-steer-ctl template is the better fit for CTL-class machines specifically.

What's the most common dozer write-up?

Track-pad bolts loose or missing. They're under constant shock-load and individual bolts back off over time. A missing pad bolt is a 30-second visual catch; a track-section failure from cumulative bolt loss is a major down-day.

Does the dozer operator need a CDL?

Not for operating the dozer on-site. CDLs apply to commercial motor vehicles on public roads. If the dozer is hauled between sites on a lowboy, the lowboy operator needs the appropriate CDL — but the dozer operator does not (unless they also drive the lowboy).
